On Strength. A Collection of Philosophical Dialogues
Sound Bite
What is strength? Is it as obvious as it seems? Why do you need it? This book explores and ponders various facets of strength in a philosophical dialogue that probes the meaning of character and values, what is worth fighting for--and why; what it means to be a true friend; how to know when it's right to stand up to others; what it means to be strong and how to find and train our own inner strength.

Exploring elements that contribute to personal strength, the author engages us in conversation to tease out the complexities. What does character have to do with strength? What about truth? How do heart and soul figure into things? What about mind and gut? Can you be strong while you are at odds with yourself? Characters in the dialogue include Father and Director, who discuss a variety of topics along these lines with Youth after he has a fight with a bully. Youth will lift weights and study martial arts in order to help him defend himself. But there is other training that he must undergo. This book is in large part about how to gain in confidence without crossing the line to overconfidence. This book is about finding your strength.
