Viewers often donate to their favorite streamers to either support them financially, have them react to their donation message, or for a shout-out from the creator. However, there is another category of donators that no one likes.
Donations seeking pity, emotional and mental support, and donations that bring everyone’s mood down are frowned upon by most Twitch users. And one recent donation seeking pity took it a step too far.
39Daph Lashes Out At Donations Seeking Pity
Some viewers forget healthy boundaries and begin to build a parasocial relationship with content creators they spend a lot of time watching. And when this happens, they seek comfort and emotional support from content creators who are just trying to entertain and have fun.
39Daph lashed out at a parasocial viewer and their $5 donation seeking pity during her recent live stream.
The parasocial viewer wanted Daph and her community to leave positive messages on their friend’s Instagram profile. The creator and her community immediately shut down the $5 donation seeking pity.
Not only was the donation seeking pity, but it was also promoting an Instagram account to raise interactions via comments and likes. The creator and her community did not take kindly to the donation seeking pity and a service.
39Daph Turns Off Donations To Avoid Pity Stories
39Daph responded to the Tweet calling out her behavior towards the parasocial viewer who donated seeking pity.
And 39Daph is right. Donations are completely voluntary, and no one should expect anything from a content creator just because they decide to donate. Sadly, it is not uncommon for creators to receive such donations seeking pity and attention.

Following this incident, 39Daph decided to turn off her donations. “I turned off donations to avoid pity stories and people expecting a service out of donating to me,” Daph stated in a tweet.
And several content creators agree with Daph. Alinity chimed in and said, “People donating to share personal tragic news in front of thousands is so awkward. Just really not the time and place.”
Sadly, parasocial viewers aren’t going anywhere, and content creators must deal with donations seeking pity and attention every day. Hopefully, 39Daph doesn’t have to deal with too many of them after being open about her dislike for such donations.
