The duality of CohhCarnage, a man who champions himself as the voice of Twitch when it is convenient and favors him. However, he refrains from speaking up against misogyny, sexism, and hate and trivializes it as mere “drama.”
CohhCarnage Withholds “Hot Take” On Pokimane vs. Ninja
Twitch’s largest female streamer, Pokimane, was recently a victim of a misogynistic and sexist hate raid and is in an ongoing battle with popular male streamer Ninja, who supported the perpetrator of the hate raid.
Most people on Twitch and social media are voicing their support for Pokimane, standing up against misogyny and sexism on Twitch and within the live streaming bubble. However, one of Twitch’s veteran streamers trivializes it as mere drama.
And Cohh has complete freedom to stay away from topics and current events he doesn’t want to get involved with. However, mentioning you won’t drop your “hot take” on the latest “drama” is not staying away from it. It’s trivializing and making light of a serious matter.
Especially when just a week back, Cohh championed himself as the voice of Twitch against react streamers and the react meta. He targetted some of the biggest streamers on the platform, including Pokimane, in his crusade against the react meta.
This is the duality of CohhCarnage. A man who is supposedly worried about the future of the entire platform due to the react meta, however, has nothing to say when the biggest female streamer on the platform has to fight against sexism and misogyny against his peers.
CohhCarnage’s Crusade Against React Streamers
CohhCarnage has been vocal against the react meta that currently prevails on Twitch. His main concern is that the platform’s biggest streamers will attract attention from powerful corporates, negatively impacting all content creators.
He championed himself as the voice of Twitch, especially the smaller streamers, against the big bad react streamers who will bring doom and gloom to the platform. However, it was clear to many that Cohh was just seeking attention by fearmongering.
The attention and fame you get for being the champion of the people is pretty alluring. And when CohhCarnage is struggling to retain viewership and stay relevant, taking on the mantle of champion of the people is an easy way to boost his popularity.
The Duality Of CohhCarnage
While it is convenient and in his favor, CohhCarnage becomes the voice of the people and stands up against the big, bad streamers who, according to him, are destroying the platform’s future.
However, when a real and serious issue of misogyny, sexism, and hate against the platform’s most famous female streamer surfaces, he decides to keep his “hot take” to himself. Furthermore, he trivializes the struggle women face in the male-dominated industry by calling it drama.
An influential male figure calling Pokimane’s fight against misogyny and sexism a drama sends the wrong message to the entire live streaming community. It seems CohhCarnage is only concerned with the platform’s future when it affects him.
Not only did CohhCarnage call this serious issue that plagues the industry a “drama,” but he also condescendingly Tweeted out later on in the day that wanted to talk about the “REAL” news.
Maybe next time, CohhCarnage will manage not to be a hypocrite and stick to his views and ideals consistently. But for now, the duality of CohhCarnage is clearly visible.
CohhCarnage Comes Out In Support Of Pokimane After Seeing It Benefits Him On Social Media
CohhCarnage finally came out with a statement to support Pokimane and stand against sexism and misogyny. However, after his initial dismissive response, we begin to wonder if this is for brownie points on social media.
We have asked CohhCarnage for a response. What made him change from dismissing this issue to speaking about it now? Everyone can clearly see how CohhCarnage flip-flops and says what’s in his best interest.
This isn’t the first time CohhCarnage has been a hypocrite. But we can hope this will be the last.
